Robert Parker comments from October 1997 :
« This medium-massive wine, seductive from its youth, continues to evolve in a beautiful way. Featuring a dark and deep garnet colour slightly amber on the edge, the 1971 Château Mouton Rothschild reveals the classic nose of cedar, blackcurrant and paper pencil characteristic of the Pauillac wines. The mouth, tasty, reveals sweet aromas of cedar and gooseberry, which is distinguished by their freshness and the happy acidity that supports them. The tannins are perfectly ripe, so is the wine.»
